We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free!
(Psalm 124:7 NLT)
Years ago, I received a call from an old colleague whose exact words were, “You dodged a bullet this summer.” I had decided to take a break and didn’t have peace about accepting the job offer at what used to be my regular summer job. But apparently, God had been at work all along and was protecting me from trouble. After my conversation with her, I couldn’t help but praise God for His guidance and deliverance.
Although today’s passage best depicts Israel’s release from Babylonian captivity, it’s also a most apt figure for the Christian’s deliverance from the devil’s snares. The devil is constantly setting traps for God’s children, but thank God that we can escape from them. “Praise the Lord, who did not let [the enemy’s] teeth tear us apart! Our help is from the Lord who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 124:6, 8).
Before you ever get a problem, God has already got your deliverance planned. -Joyce Meyer
