Sons of Thunder

When James and John saw this, they said to Jesus, “Lord, should we call down fire from heaven to burn them up?” But Jesus turned and rebuked them.

(Luke 9:54-55 NLT)

Is it any wonder that Jesus nicknamed them “Sons of Thunder” (Mark 3:17)? When the Samaritans wouldn’t welcome Jesus, James and John wanted to call down fire from heaven to destroy them, but Jesus rebuked them. In Ephesians 4:26, Paul told the Ephesian Christians (and us), “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry”’ (NIV). Anger is a natural emotion, but we have to be careful not to let it get the best of us.

Don’t let anger get the best of you.
