We were God’s enemies, but he made us his friends through the death of his Son. Now that we are God’s friends, how much more will we be saved by Christ’s life! But that is not all; we rejoice because of what God has done through our Lord Jesus Christ, who has now made us God’s friends. (Romans 5:10-11 GNT)

A wise colleague once advised me to “make friends, not enemies.” Their advice has stayed with me ever since. It pertains not only to work relationships, but all relationships in general. And what a great feeling it is to have friends (even if they’re not the best) than enemies. That’s what we were in our sin and rebellion – God’s enemies – because sin separates us from a holy God. But He wanted us to be His friends instead. Jesus made that happen through His death on the cross. Because for there to be peace, someone had to pay the price. How wonderful it is to come to God through Christ’s sacrifice knowing that we’re no longer enemies, but friends! Rejoice this Easter because you’re a friend of God!
